Career Assessment
|
 |
Moving: your CV is complete, your actively
seeking alternative employment, you know what you want and are at the stage
of looking for the best package.
Potential Risks
-
Are you looking for the right job, for the
right reasons. Take time and think it over before acting – acting
for the wrong reasons can at times be a massive error. Will this
new position be a progression or a side step and where does it fit in with
your career goals?
-
Are you confident at each and every interview
– it normal for us to be a little anxious at interviews. If you find
that you are under performing at interview, it may be time to get some
professional guidance to maximise your performance at interview.
Research your prospective employer, interviewer and role, and practice
your interview beforehand, anticipate their questions and desired responses.
-
Taking ‘knock-backs’ to heart. Business
is business, it may well be that on this occasion there may be someone
who fits the role better than you. Simply review your overall performance
and continue to learn from every experience, and continue to change your
approach until you succeed in attaining each and every one of your goals.
-
Burning bridges when you’ve hardly started
– leave all that old negative baggage at your last employers’. It’s
unwise to get off to a bad start by bringing along bad experiences from
previous employment - start with a clean slate and do better.
Potential Actions
-
Interviews: customise your approach for every
company, also your CV. Research thoroughly every organisation you are considering
applying to.
-
Help from others. Avoid the help of
friends and colleagues in the decision making process, at the end of the
day, it’s your life, your career and your dreams. They may have the
best of intentions and they are worth listening to, inevitably it’s your
decision. There are professional careers’ advisers and coaches available
– use them if you feel the need, but you can’t make excuses because of
them – you are responsible for you!!
-
Be professional when leaving – ensure your
reputation continues to grow as you walk out the door, be thankful for
all of the help and advice you’ve received through the years. Leave,
giving people only reasons to remember you in a positive light.
-
Communicate with your colleagues and boss,
review your past performances and take them as learning stages of your
career to date.
-
Take action – no-one else is responsible for
you, only you, so design the life for yourself that you truly desire.
